RE: How will current RV market affect RV shows?

At Pomona,i hear there will mostly be 2008 models, as most dealers haven't ordered 2009 models. They can't move their 2008s. We are going on Saturday. I checked online at Altmans wiinebago and they have only a handful of 2009s and lots of 2008. ZkathyZ, what chemicals did you buy last year? Last year, we didn't wait for the shuttle, and walked about a mile to the show. Maybe this year the line will be shorter.

Pomona RV Show and the economy

We always look forward to going to the RV Show. Since buying our Winnebago in 2003, we have gotten in the mail, an invitation to visit Altman Winneago hospitality tent. We got a small gift and some refreshments. Haven't received anything in the mail. Must be some big cutbacks in manufacturers and vendors attending the show. I know the economy has taken its toll. La Mesa RV closed and the Lance Camper dealer here in the San Fernando Valley is now a vacant lot. Our dream MH a 29 foot Claas A Winnebago Sightseer has been disounted another $10,000. Since we are in up side down in our Class C, we could not jump at the deal. Besides, getting loans has to be a problem.

RE: CB use has been disapointing on this long trip

Is there really any point in having an amp? There isn't anyone out there talking. You primarily want to communicate with other travelers on the road in your vacinity. I have tried to talk with a semi ahead and can't raise him. When I pass him, he is on his cellphone. I spent $65 to tweak my Cobra 29. I can't tell if it really makes that much of a difference. No one to talk with. The few local CB bases around home say it sounds good and I am getting out. And yes you are correct, they have trash mouths.

RE: Arches Canyonlands area campgound.

We were in Moab earlier this month on a 6 National Park trip from Los Angeles. We spent the first night in Canyonlands RV Park. It is right in the middle of town. It was clean, but would have been a little cramped if we had a larger rig. The next two nights were spent in the Moab RV Resort a stone's throw from the Colorado and at the north end of town. That was also clean, we had to share a patch of grass with 2 tables and 2 BBQ stands on it with other RVers parked opposite us. Not a real problem as we didn't spend much time outdoors that evening because of rain. The next night we came back there and got an end site and didn't have anyone close to us. I think we paid $34 at Canyonlands and $38 at Moab RV Resort. I know there are other campgrounds that were less expensive icluding some of the State Parks. But we wanted the treat of full hookups, cable and wi-fi.

RE: Onan 4K Gen Trouble

The starter solenoid may have gotten stuck. I had that happen 4 years ago and called Onan. Just hjad clicking and the same error code. They told me to make sure the switches are shut off. Then reach in the front of the generator where the fan is. Then grab the fan an pull a blade or two turning the fan and flywheel. That freed mine and haven't had a problem since. They told me that if the engine start/stop button must be pushed for a few seconds after it starts and stops.

RE: Slim Line engine console for 2003 Ford E-350

that's the only topic I found and it showed my console. It did say that Winnebago has a slimline one. I will try them tomorrow. But I know I saw a few topics on it when they came out with it a few years ago.

Slim Line engine console for 2003 Ford E-350

I thought that there was a thinner cup holder console on the market for my 2003 Ford E-350. My DW is having problems with her knee and is having difficulty getting in and out of the passeneger seat. I haven't been able to locate it online. Was it just for later model Winnebago's?

RE: CB use has been disapointing on this long trip

I started this topic. Those of us that have CBs and want to use them are definately in the minority. Perhaps it's because many are aware of it's limitations. But it's those limitations that make it the only way to contact someone on the road in your proximity. Cellphones are useless for that purpose unless you have the phone number of the trucker or RV you want to chat with. I haven't given up yet. Even though my trip to Arizona and Utah was disapointing CB wise, I am heading up to Yosemite in a week or two. I-5 and 99 are loaded with truckers and RVers. Only problem is we would be heading up mid-week and coming home Sunday. I would expect most RVers to be on the road on Friday and Sunday. The only RVs I will probably see on the road Wednesday evening would be a few rentals from Road Bear, Cruise America and El Monte RV. And we know they won't have a CB.

RE: CB use has been disapointing on this long trip

Engineer9860- that's all good and well, but nobody is talkin'. I contacted Good Sam and Cobra to see about making channel 13 an RV channel and have them promote it. No answer back from either. When I emailed Cobra, I told them how I thought their Cobra WX ST II was a great radio for RVs. It can scan 2 channels or all of them and it has the WX feature. No reply. Seems like there is an opportunity out there if we can get some backing from Good Sam, Woodall's, Trailer Life, Cobra or Midland and of course us RVers.

RE: CB use has been disapointing on this long trip

Well, we are back home in LA. Heard those CBers with PMS again in Las Vegas. It does sound like the same ones we heard last evening. They must be base stations. I tried to raise other RVers with antenna, but no answers. We listened to some civil talk from truckers later down the road on I-15 and on the 58. I was expecting harrassment from the truckers when I asked if there were any RVers out there with their ears on. No answers from anyone. I know I was getting out, as I sometimes would ask for a radio check. I got a polite response from the truckers with, " Read you loud and clear driver." Unless we have a national push for RVers to use their CBs, it's a wait and listen time.

RE: CB use has been disapointing on this long trip

Well, I drove 466 miles today from Moab, Utah to Las Vegas. I tried many times to contact other RVs with CB antenna and some truckers. No luck. I did start to hear some trucker chatter coming down the I-15 near the Utah/Arizona border. Then when I hit Las Vegas, I had to turn off the CB. The CBers there are just jerks with foul mouths. Never chatted with anyone. I don't know why with all the open CB channels and so many of us RVers having radios, that we can't organize our own channel. Do we need to set up a website? I think I'm just spinning my wheels and should look for another battle somewhere else. Tomorrow, we head back to LA. Maybe this time there will be some RVers out there on the road with their radios on.

RE: CB use has been disapointing on this long trip

Thanks for all the comments. Perhaps I have been monitoring the wrong channel. Don't the truckers use channel 19 the 70 and 15 in Utah and Neveda?

CB use has been disapointing on this long trip

I finally got my CB radio and antenna working well. I used it earlier in the year on trips to Yosemite with some results. Now I am on a longer trip from LA to the Grand Canyon, Bryce, Arches and Canyonland. I haven't heard anything since going thru Las Vegas last week where we heard the vulgar truckers. I tried numerous times to raise fellow RVers that had CB antennas on their rigs going thru Utah. But no one ever answered. I tried channels 19 then 13. Guess eveyone just wants to be left alone and use their cellphones. Oh, I did put a sign in my rear window, "CH 19 Winnie" before leaving home. Heading for home tomorrow from Moab, perhaps it will be better going back on the I-70 to the I-15 to LA.

RE: VuQube satellite TV

I have been vasilating for months now on getting the VuQube. We have a trip planned for the Grand Canyon and I think I may buy one today. I hope I don't have any problems with the initial setup, as I have Dish 500 at home with a 311 receiver. Admiral0647 gave me instructions earlier in the year for the u-bolt to secure it and it should just fit in my Stowaway cargo bin on my rear hitch receiver for travel. I will be heading up to CW in a few hours. Big decision.

RE: Cellphone coverage North and South Rim Grand Canyon

Thanks for the updates on the cellphone coverage. We have to keep in touch with family members as we have elderly parents with health issues. My DW has to check in with them twice daily. If there isn't cell coverage, it means relying on finding public pay phones. We are trying to stay no more than a days drive from LA.

Rocky2- thanks, I was looking for something to do before leaving Kanab for the 2 hour trip to the North Rim. Coral Pink Sands SP fits the bill.
